Mrs. Roma Bovard
Roma was born in Hasting, Nebraska, on July 28, 1947. Raised on a farm, she attended a one-room school house until 5 th grade, entered parochial school until the 8 th grade, and then graduated from High School at Blue Hill. She was involved in the Church Youth group and started teaching private piano lessons at a young age.
After graduation, she was employed at the Nebraska Veterans in Grand Island, Nebraska, and was transferred to the Veteran’s Hone in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, as Volunteer Services Coordinator.
Roma’s desire to live in Colorado brought her to Denver in 1974 where she accepted a position at a private employment agency. She met and married the love her life, Larry Bovard, in 1976. Together they share four children and nine grandchildren.
In 1979, they moved to Ridgway, Colorado, where they raised Simmental cattle and Percheron draft horses. Active in the community, Roma was a founding member of the Ridgway Community Pride Organization and served on the Board of Directors for twelve years. She also taught piano lessons to the children of the Ridgway and Ouray area. Always an important part of her life, she was involved in the local church and women’s Bible studies.
Roma and her family now reside on a 100-acre farm southwest of Olathe, Colorado, realizing Roma’s dream of someday returning to the farm life. Here her family of four generations raises Percheron drafts horses and travels around the country competing in major horse shows. They also grow certified equine hay.
Roma has served on the Board of Directors of Praise Him Ministries since 2000. She continues to remain active in all aspects of the ministry where she takes great pleasure an joy in serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Roma claims to be “an old fashioned” woman in these modern times and is an advocate of stay-at-home moms. Her motto comes from Proverbs 31: 28 & 30 which states “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her… but a a women who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”
